ASBESTOS

What is asbestos and why is it so dangerous?

Asbestos is a set of 6 naturally occurring silicate minerals, each fibre consisting of microscopic fibrils that can be released by friction or abrasion .
Asbestos is commonly found in roofing material like corrugated asbestos cement roof sheets, cement gutters and pipes, ceiling boards and water tanks.
All types of asbestos fibre are known to cause serious health hazards in humans.
According to OHSA there is no safe level of exposure to asbestos fibres.
Prolonged inhalation of asbestos can cause serious illnesses like lung cancer and asbestosis (a progressive fibrosis of the lungs)
